Let’s start with the basic understanding of what is scaffolding and what are its essential different parts. If you are planning to buy different types of scaffolding parts/materials in India, This blog will give you an understanding of scaffolding from an in-depth manner. It will be useful for you to understand if scaffolding is not working and you would be able to pinpoint as to what exactly is not functioning in the scaffold. You knowledge might just save you a lot of costs.
Let’s start with the most basic enquiry, what is scaffolding?
It is a temporary framework having platforms at different levels. All workers can either sit or stand and work on this platform. It has breadth for one person to stand freely and work.
Minimum height to use a scaffold is 1.5 m. The general width of any scaffold is width of scaffolding boards. The general height between scaffolds is 2 – 2.6 meter. It is also known as the lift height because generally workers have a lift attached in scaffoldings. Also keep in mind, if the board is 38 mm thick, transoms should be minimum 1.2 meters apart & a 50 mm thick board requires that transoms be no more than 2.6 meters apart. In addition to the basic structure, there are multiple kinds of ties that secure a scaffold. It is attached at every 4 meter on alternate lift height. Through ties is used to secure a scaffold to a building, box ties helps secure a scaffold by attaching to a buildings external features.
It can be easily dismantled after the work is completed. It provides a high level of safety for workers and is used most commonly in construction, maintenance, repair, inspection, access, etc.
Now let’s discuss different scaffolding parts:
It is generally identified with broadly three elements standards, ledgers & transoms. But I will give a small understanding for all elements of scaffolding.
Standards: It is referred to the vertical long pipe or tube of the frame work that is supported at the ground. It covers the complete length of the scaffold, the base of each standard is connected to the base plate, which helps in distributing the weight equally at each standard bears.
Ledger: In between each standard, the horizontal running structure is called Ledgers. It adds in further strength and support to the scaffold.
Transoms: They are placed on top of ledger at a right angle, come in different several forms. Main transforms provide support and strength for standards by holding them in tightly. Intermediate transforms are placed beside main transforms to give additional strength and support.
Braces: Braces are the diagonal structures running on the fixed to provide strength and stiffness to the scaffolding. It is a mix of cross braces, façade braces (It prevents the structure from swaying and are generally attached at the face of the scaffold.) attached via couplers, It can be used in various permutation and combination to support the structure.
Put Logs: It is referred to the transverse structure, placed at 90 degree, parallel to the wall; one end is supported on ledgers and other on wall. It is placed far away to accommodate a platform of up to 5 boards.
Couplers: Coupler is like a connector between several variants. So for example a right angle coupler is required to connect a transom/ledger to a standard. A putlog/single coupler is used to connect a ledger to transom. There are many more variants to connect the scaffold. Buy Cuplock scaffolding in India from reputed buyers.
Boarding: Boarding’s are basically the long horizontal platform to support workmen and materials which are supported on the putlog.
Guard Rail: guard rails are like ledgers provided at work level.
Toe Board: toe board are parallel to ledgers, supported on put log to provide protection at the level of working platform.
